Biography
Currently retired, Floyd spent most of his working career in medical electronics. With a degree in Communications Electronics he spent over six years as a Field Engineer with the University of Denver. This was a U.S.A.F. contract to study the propagation of low frequency radio waves around the world. The project took him to Iran, Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand, and the East coast of South America. Joining Technicon Corporation in the late 60's brought Floyd to the change in career paths which is now called Medical Electronics & Clinical Engineering. Later, with Honeywell Medical Systems, the career focused on not only the technical aspects of medical instrumentation but emphasized the customer service factors of medical instrumentation service.
Family obligations brought Floyd back to his roots in the mid '70's where he developed the policies and procedures for the Department of Biomedical Engineering at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. This was a one-man operation for this flagship regional medical center serving a wide geographical area of the high plains.
After 18 years at St. Catherine and single, Purdue University offered Floyd the opportunity to assist in the development of a curriculum in Medical Electronics at a Poly Tech at Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia. This 15 month contract with the Ministry of Education of Malaysia was a nice 'cap' on the career.
In November, 2001 Floyd relocated to Kaw City, North Central, Oklahoma. This small town ( pop. 300 +/- ) sits on a peninsula jutting out into Kaw Lake. Time is spent now with ham radio (PSK31), surfing the 'net, and roaming the marinas.
